OpenSSL version upgrade

The Communication Drivers Pack now ships OpenSSL version 3.0 along with the existing version 1.1.

OPC UA Methods Support

Client applications can now call methods in an OPC UA server through the OPC UA client in the Gateway Communication Driver.

System Platform 2023 R2 includes several new features, as well as miscellaneous bug and security fixes.  Please refer to the Read Me documentation for details.

New in This Release

PCS connectivity for Communication Drivers

The Platform Common Services (PCS) framework enables communication between all AVEVA services that are listed on the framework. The PCS framework allows IData clients (such as Application Server) to directly request for data from Communication Drivers. At present, IData versions V2 and V3 are supported.

Enabling/disabling client protocols used to connect to a Communication Driver

A new Client Connectivity section is available in the Configuration tab for each Communication Driver, where users can select the protocol(s) (DDE/SL, OPC, PCS) a client should use to communicate with the Communication Driver.

Project templates for Visual Studio 2022 to create a custom Communication Driver solution

The new Visual Studio 2022 extension provides project templates for developers to create a new solution and immediately compile a working (but empty) Communication Driver.

This release of the Communication Drivers Pack is an upgrade for consumption with System Platform.

New in This Release

Improved Security Posture in the Configuration and Runtime of Communication Drivers

A Standard User will now have only read rights. However, the Standard User will have an option to get the additional user privileges for a specific time interval by providing the OI Administrator user credentials. For more information on standard user privileges and getting Administrator Privileges, refer to the Accessing OCMC as a Standard User topic of the Communication Drivers Pack help.

MQTT Publisher

• Sparkplug Support: You can now publish payloads encoded in Sparkplug format using the MQTT publisher.
• Dedicated Publishing Hierarchy
• File Import/Export of MQTT Publisher configuration

Buffered data

All the drivers in the Communication Drivers Pack provides a buffering capability with late data indication when sending data to System Platform via OPC or SuiteLink.

SuiteLink Security

From this release, SuiteLink will be configured as default to use secure encrypted communication (V3). Unsecure unencrypted communication (V2) is only retained as a fallback.

OPCUA Client

• Reverse Connect
  The OPC UA Reverse Connect feature enables the OPC UA server to initiate a connection with the Gateway Communication Driver. In a secure environment, inbound connections to the OPC UA server are restricted as the server operates behind a firewall. By using Reverse Connect, the firewall restriction is alleviated as the connection is being made from the OPC UA server to the client.
• New Security Policy Options
  From this release, OPC UA supports two new security policies namely, Aes128_Sha256_RsaOaep and Aes256_Sha256_RsaPss. Basic125Rsa15 and Basic256 are deprecated and supported only for compatibility reasons. For more information refer to the Gateway Communication Driver Help.
• Improved Server Browsing
  From this release, you can browse and select available endpoints of OPC UA server and its supported security policy.

SMC Name Change

The SMC is renamed as Operations Control Management Consoler (OCMC).

Refreshed user interface

The design environments for Application Server, AVEVA OMI, and InTouch HMI now have a new look and improved user interface. Menus and icons have been redesigned for a better user experience. Some of the key highlights include new backstages and menu organization. This updated interface provides more efficient workflows and a common look and feel across AVEVA’s operations control software.

Integrated Web Help System

System Platform 2023 now includes an integrated Web Help system that uses your default browser to display both general and contextual help.

System Platform Enterprise is intended for customers who subscribe to AVEVA Operations Control Enterprise. It features capabilities that are specific to the implementation of Unified Operation Centers (UOC).
